What Happens When I Don't Agree With God

This week we explore Jonah's story and how it challenges us to examine what happens when we find ourselves at odds with God's will. Rather than simply being about running from our calling, this message reveals a deeper truth: alignment with God matters more than agreement. We often think we need to feel something or fully understand God's ways before we obey, but Jonah's journey shows us that feelings don't lead - God does. The story exposes our divided allegiances, particularly when God asks us to extend grace to people we believe don't deserve it. Who is the 'Ninevite' in our hearts? Who have we written off as beyond God's reach or unworthy of His mercy? The uncomfortable reality is that our opinions cannot rewrite God's compassion. While Jonah eventually obeyed externally, he never aligned internally, which blocked him from experiencing the joy of 120,000 people finding God. This teaches us that we can be wildly used by God yet miss the blessing entirely when our hearts remain hardened. The call is clear: move from our wants to God's will, recognizing that our hate doesn't stop God's love - it only blocks our joy.
